General Information

Regarding the EHV-1 outbreak in the western states: we are currently monitoring the situation of the outbreak by following updates posted by Pioneer Equine Hospital (Oakdale, CA) and as of today, we are still moving forward with our show in June.  Per Pioneer Equine Hospital, “currently there is no evidence of EHV-1 disease spread outside the cutting horses who participated in Ogden, UT” (National Cutting Horse Association Championships).  EHV-1 is commonly spread by direct horse-to-horse contact, but can spread via contaminated feed and water buckets, tack, and even human contact.  We have contacted the Sonoma County Fairgrounds and have confirmed that no other equine event has taken place in the Lyttle Cow Palace and adjacent stalls in the months of April and May.  WCMDC will be the first equine event in that arena in mid-June.  As a precaution, we have received approval from the Fairgrounds to spray down the stalls with a bleach/water mixture prior to everyone’s arrival.  We are also speaking with equine veterinarians to determine the risk of travelling and showing during this time.  Also worth noting, at this time, there have not been any confirmed cases of EHV-1 in reported in Sonoma County.  We will continue to provide updates as they become available.  Thank you for your continued support!
